Senior Web Backend Software Engineer

Davis Instruments, a leading manufacturer of weather stations, currently has an opportunity for a senior web backend software engineer.   Davis is a long established and profitable company that values the balance between work and family.  Davis offers a competitive salary, full benefits package, as well as a friendly work environment.  We are conveniently located in Hayward with easy access to the East Bay and Peninsula via the San Mateo Bridge.

We have a state of the art development environment and use AWS to host our services. We have tens of thousands of Internet of Things (iOT) weather devices in use by our worldwide customer base. The software includes a data visualization website with data ingestion, APIs and mobile apps.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, prototype and develop website backend software primarily in Java to meet requirements for data ingestion into SQL and Cassandra databases as well as to provide APIs and other services
  • Servers need to have built-in reliability, scalability and performance and are deployed in an AWS based cloud environment
  • Work closely with devops to do continuous integration, configuration, develop monitoring capability and assist with launch related development
  • Problem solving: research and experiment to find solutions to problems we come across in development

Requirements:

  • 5+ years in web backend services development
  • 8+ years in software development
  • Expert proficiency in server side Java, SQL, data modelling and schema design
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to drive projects to completion on aggressive timelines
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Full stack experience: JavaScript, DropWizard, Bootstrap, Backbone
  • Experience with noSQL databases like Cassandra
  • Strong experience with communication protocols like TCP/IP and low level device communication
  • Experience with API Manager software

Technical Support Representative

The representative will perform troubleshooting and problem resolution tasks to end users and resellers in the US and around the world resulting in exceptional customer satisfaction. Accounts Payable Specialist
